Tips to help your family sit less and move more

We’ve got a whole library of practical tips to help you and your family get moving! Keep it fun by trying out some of our challenges, too.


  • Doing any physical activity is better than none - every little bit counts. So if you're getting active for the first time or just starting out and feel a little nervous, trying new activities together with friends or family will help.

  • One clear evening, take the family outside and see if you can find south using the stars, if you can spot any of the famous star constellations, or simply make up your own shapes. For more ideas to explore the sky with your kids, visit here.

  • Small changes to your routine can mean more opportunities for your family to move more. Park your car in the furthest parking space from the shop's entrance, then walk to the shops.

  • Encourage the kids to try walking barefoot on different surfaces - try grass, carpet, concrete or sand.

  • Kids aged four or under should limit watching TV or playing electronic games for entertainment to no more than an hour per day.
