Tips to help your family sit less and move more

We’ve got a whole library of practical tips to help you and your family get moving! Keep it fun by trying out some of our challenges, too.


  • Try to keep family activities varied, and be sure to let your children take turns choosing what activity the family will do next.

  • If it's raining outside, move the fun indoors with a dance competition, play games with balloons or soft balls, or head to your local indoor swimming pool.

  • Get more out of 'tummy time' - lay on the floor with your baby and place toys around them to encourage grasping, reaching, leg kicking and head lifting.

  • Shovelling or carrying heavy loads counts as physical activity, so keep it in mind when you have work to do in the garden!

  • Doing any physical activity is better than none - every little bit counts. So if you're getting active for the first time or just starting out and feel a little nervous, trying new activities together with friends or family will help.
