Tips to help your family sit less and move more

We’ve got a whole library of practical tips to help you and your family get moving! Keep it fun by trying out some of our challenges, too.


  • Join up with another family at the park and form teams to play a game of cricket or soccer.

  • Don't rush things! If you or a member of your family are struggling to be active, start with what you can do and build it up over time. Check with your GP or health professional on what's best for you and your family.

  • A fun way to get active while reading with your kids is to read a book out loud and act out parts of the story. If a character is running, you could run on the spot or around the house too.

  • Next time why not walk to the shops instead of driving? It's a great chance to talk with your kids, or maybe even play a game of 'I spy' or 'Spot the object' along the way.

  • By limiting the time you spend sitting or lying down you can help reduce your risk of some cancers and prevent unhealthy weight gain.
