Tips to get your family into life

With a few pointers from the tips below, you and your family could get more out of every day. Or, try some of our challenges to really get things rolling!


  • Try to give your kids your full attention if they're telling you about their day - it'll remind them just how important they are to you.

  • Encourage polite and respectful behaviour at meal times. Try to wait until everyone is seated before you start eating.

  • Time spent looking at a screen generally means time not spent exercising or connecting with your family - and with so much technology around it's easy to lose track of time. Try allocating specific time periods for media use - preferably not during daylight hours when you can be active outdoors instead - to limit your family's screen time.

  • If finding time to connect with other families and friends is a bit much at the moment, try to spend time together with your family this weekend. Go on a drive to one of our surrounding national parks and take a nature walk. Check out the Explore Canberra guide for more ideas.

  • There are endless ways you can motivate your family to move more at home like a game of backyard cricket, soccer, or basketball. And by being physically active with your family, you're also being a great role model for your kids.
