Tips to help you eat well

This collection of handy tips will help you and your family enjoy better eating habits. But don’t forget to also check out our ‘Good Habits’ recipes, as well as challenges to keep your family motivated.

  • Try adding lemon or lime slices to tap water to make it tastier.

  • Avoid overfilling your child's plate. You'll waste less food and they won't overeat. Besides... they can always ask for seconds!

  • Keep food safe. Always wash hands before cooking. It's best to keep food hot, at or above 60' celsius, or cold, at or below 5' celsius.

  • It's not always easy but try to eat healthy foods in front of your kids - because they learn by doing what you do. Visit ACT Health's Women, Youth and Children Nutrition Service for more information.

  • Nuts are suitable for children from 3 years of age (but keep these at home and avoid nuts when sending your children to early childhood centres or school).
