Challenge your family to move more
The challenges below will get your family moving and will help make being physically active a part of everyday life. You can also check out our handy tips for more great ways to get started.


  • Teach your kids two new games this week that you might have played when you were a child. Skipping rope games, hide and seek, Mr. Wolf… the list goes on. It's a great way to share your childhood and connect with your kids.

  • Get the family to try a new activity that you haven't tried before, or haven't done for a while. It may be a sport you can play together, going for a bike ride or even taking the family on a hike up one of Canberra's beautiful mountains.

  • Try some strengthening exercises you haven't already tried. Here's some ideas to get you started:

    • Lifting weights (if you don't have weights, try using canned food)
    • Working with resistance bands
    • Doing exercises that use your body weight (e.g. push-ups, sit ups, lunges, squats)
    • Heavy gardening such as digging and shoveling
    • Yoga

  • Mix it up by getting the kids to choose an activity each weekend for a month that the whole family can do together. It might be bike riding, a scooter ride or a game of tag in the backyard.

  • Include some more physical activity into your family's routine for the next few weeks by making a game of household tasks and getting the kids involved. See who can vacuum the floor, mow the lawn or clean the car the fastest in your household.
