  • Try new foods with your child and talk to them about the taste, texture, smell and look.

  • Kids have small stomachs and high energy needs so snacks are an important part of healthy eating. It can be hard but try your best to offer a variety of choices from the five food groups.

  • Use child-sized plates and bowls for your kids. It makes it easier to tell if they're getting the right portion size.

  • Pre-packaged snack foods are often high in energy (kilojoules), unhealthy fats, sugar and/or salt. Limit them to special occasions.

  • Choose fruit and vegies in season. They taste great and are often cheaper too - check out our guide to what's in season now.
