Tips to help you eat well

This collection of handy tips will help you and your family enjoy better eating habits. But don’t forget to also check out our ‘Good Habits’ recipes, as well as challenges to keep your family motivated.

  • It's not always easy but try to eat a whole piece of fruit (like an orange) instead of drinking fruit juice. More nutrients, less sugar.

  • Iron is important for energy, brain development and growth. Try to include food with iron at each meal such as lean red meat, chicken, fish, legumes, eggs, nuts and seeds.

  • Use child-sized plates and bowls for your kids. It makes it easier to tell if they're getting the right portion size.

  • Try to choose fresh foods over processed foods. See the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating for more information.

  • Getting hungry while you're out and about? Plan ahead and pack some fresh fruit, vegie sticks, nuts or cheese and crackers.
