Tips to help you eat well

This collection of handy tips will help you and your family enjoy better eating habits. But don’t forget to also check out our ‘Good Habits’ recipes, as well as challenges to keep your family motivated.

  • It can be hard to eat well when you're eating out. Choose tomato-based pastas instead of creamy pastas, grilled fish instead of fried fish, boiled rice instead of fried rice, and salad instead of fries. Small changes can make a big difference.

  • It's not always easy but if you don't keep junk food in the house, it's much easier to stick to eating healthily. Plus you'll avoid the tantrums that can arise when the kids know there are lollies nearby!

  • Have a go at cutting back on sugary drinks by just one soft drink a day to start with. Try to replace a soft drink with sparkling plain water or add slices of lemon, lime or mint to your water for that extra zing. Remember, small changes can make a big difference!

  • Fresh herbs straight from your garden are lovely but the good news is that dried herbs actually contain more concentrated amounts of nutrients due to the absence of the water component. Dried herbs also have a longer shelf-life (but remember that they don’t last forever) and therefore can be a more cost-effective option than purchasing fresh herbs. • It's not always easy but try to serve the same healthy meal to the whole family - it's a great way to be together and enjoy eating.
