Tips to help you eat well

This collection of handy tips will help you and your family enjoy better eating habits. But don’t forget to also check out our ‘Good Habits’ recipes, as well as challenges to keep your family motivated.

  • At the end of a meal, instead of asking "Are you finished?" ask "Is your tummy full?". This helps your child pay attention to feelings of hunger and fullness.

  • Try to shop once for the whole week to save time and money.

  • Use family meal times to try unfamiliar foods. This isn't always easy - you may need to offer food several times before your child is willing to try it and later enjoy it.

  • Offer children a smaller meal size than adults e.g. for younger children, make smaller sized rissoles.

  • Tap water and milk are the best drinks. Tap water provides fluoride to help protect from tooth decay while milk is a good source of calcium, which is important for healthy bones and teeth. You can use low fat dairy products if your child is 2 years and over.
