Challenge your family to move more
The challenges below will get your family moving and will help make being physically active a part of everyday life. You can also check out our handy tips for more great ways to get started.
Set some challenges for the kids. Who can spin the hula-hoop 10 times? Who can jump rope for a whole minute? Who can juggle a soccer ball ten times?
Get the family to try a new activity that you haven't tried before, or haven't done for a while. It may be a sport you can play together, going for a bike ride or even taking the family on a hike up one of Canberra's beautiful mountains.
Plant some pegs in an area of your garden, then let the kids dig for ‘buried treasure’ using old spoons – they’ll be entertained and active for hours. Check out our Resources for ideas on how to get the family moving outdoors.
Challenge your whole family to see how many push-ups, lunges or jumps you can all fit into five minute bursts. See if you can beat your best time week after week.
During the ad breaks, mute the sound on the TV and take turns calling out an animal name. Everyone has to move like that animal to a finish line (or the end of the ad break!). Make it more fun by making the animal noise too! You could also use this challenge to break up time spent sitting behind the computer or game device and schedule breaks.
