Challenge your family to get into life
These are challenges to help your family get more out of life – but they're so much fun, they won’t really feel that challenging at all! Plus, you can try our handy tips to help get you started.


  • At each meal time you share with your family, take turns of telling each other the three best things that happened during your day. Make sure everyone has a turn!

  • Reduce the temptation of electronic media and put your smartphone or laptop in a cupboard or somewhere out of sight for an hour and see if you can keep it up. It’s hard for children to remember not to touch. 

  • Try making some art while out for a walk this week. Paper rubbings are a great way to add some fun to a walk. Take some sheets of paper and some crayons along with you and encourage the kids to place their paper over any surface they find interesting, then rub the side of their crayon gently over the paper. Voila! An image of the surface underneath will appear as if by magic. Surfaces for rubbings can be anything from interesting pavers, brick walls, a fence, or rocks and leaves in the garden.

  • A fun game you and your family can play - or even invite other families to play is to create a 'crazy golf' course using items from around the house. You could use blocks, cushions or tunnels made out of cardboard boxes and show the children how to guide the ball around the course. Make the course hard or easy - it's up to you. Create the holes using containers, make a putter out of a cardboard tube and use a tennis ball as a golf ball. You can make different courses and even play a tournament! It's great fun the whole family can enjoy together.

  • Ask one of your kids to be the 'table captain' for a week. For example, as a 'table captain' your child sets the table, takes the family's meals from the kitchen to the table, gets drinks and clears the table (depending on their age of course!). Get each of your children to take a turn over different weeks.
